I recently had the pleasure of setting up for a wedding ceremony at this beautiful venue in a beautiful place called Coxwold in North Yorkshire. Steeped in history as well as being in the picturesque backdrop of the Howardian Hills. Run by a lovely family it is certainly a superb location for any wedding or event.

Our colour scheme for the day was royal blue and it looked simply stunning within this beautiful room.  The registrar was busy getting prepared for the ceremony in the background.

Sheet Music Decor Inspiration

So my next upcoming event is a Anniversary Dinner Dance for a Musical Theatre Company. I have come up with a main theme, which I really do not want to spoil just yet by divulging my plans, so you will all have to wait a little while longer for that.....................

Whilst looking for some inspiration one day when I was out shopping, I came across a charity shop that was selling sheet music. Now I had no fixed idea;s when I bought it, but thought I would as most people do, check out some ideas.

How To Prepare Your Tablecloths

So your big day or your event is approaching fast and if you are decorating your own venue then one thing that often gets forgotten to the last minute are the tablecloths. Time consuming and awkward, so what is the best way to prepare them and transport them to your venue?
Before you even start, always check the material and its instructions as there is nothing worse than scorching something at the last minute.
Basic tablecloth pressing tips:

• Iron tablecloths when they are slightly damp.
• Place a clean sheet on the floor under your ironing board to prevent the dangling ends of the tablecloth from picking up dust or dirt.
• Make sure the heat setting is appropriate for your tablecloth's fabric.
• Iron back and forth in line with the weave of the cloth; circular motions can stretch the fabric.

Ironing Round or Oval Tablecloths

Step 1

Visualize the round or oval tablecloth as a pizza.

Step 2

Carefully lay the tablecloth across the ironing board and press the centre of the tablecloth.

Step 3

Working outward from the centre, iron one "slice of pizza" at a time, working from the centre to the edge.

Step 4

Rotate the cloth and press the next section. Repeat until the entire cloth is pressed.

Folding Round or Oval Tablecloths

Step 1

To fold a round or oval tablecloth for storage, fold it in half with the undersides together to make a half circle.

Step 2

Fold the cloth in half again.

Step 3

Lay the tablecloth across the ironing board and bring the edges together to fold crosswise two more times. You should end up with a small wedge shape.

Step 4

Store the tablecloth flat in a drawer, box or airing cupboard

Remember: Creases form in warm fabric. Allow your tablecloth to cool before folding to avoid creases. When you're ready to use the tablecloth, it should require minimal touch-up ironing.

Ironing Rectangular Tablecloths

Step 1

When ironing rectangular tablecloths, iron the underside first. Using a low heat setting can avoid a sheen developing on the cloth.

Step 2

Work in sections from the center to the edges until you've pressed the entire cloth and it's dry.

Step 3

For a very large tablecloth, fold it in half, right sides together. Iron the underside of the cloth. Do not iron the folded edge to avoid creating a crease. Reopen the cloth and fold again with the undersides together to iron the right side. Iron the tablecloth until dry. Fold the cloth loosely into thirds and iron down the centre to remove any crease marks.

Folding Rectangular Tablecloths

Step 1

Start by folding a rectangular tablecloth in half lengthwise, undersides together.

Step 2

Fold the top and bottom ends together and fold in half crosswise.

Step 3

Fold up the bottom end of the tablecloth, id the sheen that sometimes develops as you iron

Step 4

Fold one more time and store flat.

One great way of transporting them is to hang them on a trouser hangar and steam them. failing that always take an iron with you so that they can be spruced up prior to the event.

The things that I have discovered is that if you have a business its great! networking and advertising opportunities, its amazing how many local business organisations are on there too, so great for getting information and feedback.

Marquee Weddings

With one of my first Weddings of the year approaching I felt it would be a good time to focus on Marquee weddings. 

I am often asked what my favourite weddings are and Rustic Outdoor Weddings and Marquee Weddings are always top of my list. They literally give you a blank canvas in which to create your own style and add your own personal touches. Whether it is a contempary or country style, really use your imagination, it is your day and anything goes. 

 When choosing a marquee also try not to limit yourself to traditional choices, there is a much bigger selection nowadays with Teepees and yurts these often add something unique and different to your day. Whatever style of marquee you decide to choose it is sure to be a talking point of your wedding.

Once you have an idea of the style of marquee you want, before contacting the suppliers there are a few key things that you need to check beforehand

Is there enough space for a marquee and is the ground flat?

is there enough parking close by?

toilet facilities?

is there good access for deliveries?

where will the caterers be located?

When thinking about space, is there enough room for guests to move around the marquee, is there an area for the guests to have a drinks reception, somewhere to chill out?

How far away is accommodation for your guests?

Transport to your location?

Once you have made the final decision to move forward with a marquee wedding here are a few more ideas that you may find useful.

Consider looking at images such as pin interest to get ideas for decor both inside and out.  It is a great aid to guide you through the many choices of decorations and props.

Garden games are great if you have children on your day.

Lighting is an important thing to consider, the perfect opportunity to light up the outdoors with beautiful lanterns and fairy lights to create a magical atmosphere. Perfect for a warm summer evening. 

Co-ordination 

Its a great idea if you hire a wedding planner to assist you executing your plans for the big day, someone to take over the stressful parts and worry, make sure that all the finer details are in place, someone to welcome your guests and generally overseeing the wedding as a whole including keeping things on track.

Catering

Marquee weddings are so versatile again with food anything goes, so whether it is a sit down three course meal your after, bbq or hog roast make sure you check out local caterers as well as big companies as sometimes they can offer you a great deal as well as supporting your local small business. Where I can I always recommend local suppliers as they are usually the ones who will go that extra mile for you.

Finally, make sure you have a contingency plan for extras such as heating if it is a cold day. Umbrellas kept handy just in case the sun does not happen to make an appearance.

I really am looking forward to my first marquee wedding of this year, the bride and groom are lovely and have had very definite ideas from the beginning which has made my job so much easier. I am sure the sun will shine on the day for them. I will keep you posted!
